They say blood is thicker than water. But in this case, our spiritual bond should be thicker than blood. As a Christian family we should love each other deeper than any other earthly relationships. Through troubles and joys. These are the people you will spend eternity with. We have to be part of each other's lives on an intimate level in order to offer comfort, support, and counsel. Christian Family
- Defined
- Jesus defined his family by the Spirit not flesh - Matthew 12:46-50
- We are all sons of God; Brothers - John 1:12-13
- Joint heirs to our father's Kingdom - Romans 8:14-17,29
- All Things Common
- The first church had all things common. Not just material, but sharing on an intimate level - Acts 2:44-47
- Be cognizant of each others needs. Help when needed. - 2 Corinthians 8:1-15,24
- We say we are faithful... but are we there for our brother's needs? - James 2:15-16
- Sibling Rivalry
- When issues arise between us, start personally, then bring in a support group - Matthew 18:15-17, 21-22
- We should not rely on outside counsel more than inside counsel - 1 Corinthians 6:1-8
- Are we fighting because of self-focus? Don't be judgmental. - James 4:1-3, 11-12
- Really Knowing Someone
- Joe in Accounting: You work in a large company and give your timecard to Joe in Accounting every week.
You win tickets to the Superbowl but can't use them. Your friends in your department all want them. Then
Joe asks for them. Although you know Joe, you do not know him like your own coworkers so you share that
with him. There is a difference between knowing someone in passing or as a close friend. - Jesus wants to know us intimately, not in passing - Matthew 7:23
- We should choose each other over those of the world - Romans 12:9-10
- Confess One To Another
- We should feel comfortable enough with each other to admit our faults and ask for help. - James 5:16
- We should be close enough, that when we stray we accept the advice of others - Galatians 6:1-3
- We should be close enough to bear each others burdens - Romans 15:1
- If we Love one another the way we should, we'll share our burdens and be closer as a group.

The wording of 1 Corinthians 3:11-14 has been confusing for many Christians. Especially the part about if your works are consumed by fire you’ll be preserved. So what is Paul talking about here? If we analyze the text in the context in which it was written it will start to make more sense. |
