Isaiah 6:1-3
- The Godhead through the New Testament
- Luke 1:35 - Christ's earthly conception envolved the entire Godhead.
- Matthew 3:13-17 -Christ's Baptism: Christ (in the water), Holy Spirit (lights on him like a dove), Father (His voice comes from Heaven)
This also points Christ out as God's Son
- Hebrews 9:14 - Christ's sacrifice to God by the Spirit
- Romans 1:1-4 - Christ's resurrection according to the Spirit
- John 14:8-18;26 - This reading can be confusing unless you understand the unity of the three individuals being talked about. Christ mentions
the Father being in him and he being in us and the holy spirit being in us.
- Colossians 2:8-10 - The Godhead refers to the God in three persons.
- The Godhead through the Old Testament
- Genesis 1:1-2 - Verse 1 is one very complex sentence. In fact, by most standards it is grammatically incorrect. The term "God" here comes from
the Hebrew "Elohim" (One of the proper names of God). This particular name is written in a plural form like Seraphim or Cherubim are plural. Yet, the verb used for "created" ("bara") is a singular
verb. So in hebrew it is as strange as our english sentence, "We is studying."
In verse 2 note that the Holy Spirit was present at creation.
- John 1:1-2;14 - Tells us that the 3rd person of the Godhead was also there at creation.
- Genesis 1:26 - Who is "us" and "our" referring to if not to a plural God.
- Numbers 6:22-27 - Each blessing represents the role of a member of the Godhead.
1.)God - blesses and keeps
2.)Jesus - His face appeared to man and his grace was upon the cross
3.)Holy Spirit - is in us and gives us peace (the comforter)
- Genesis 18:1-6 - The Lord is described as "three men", but Abraham still addresses them singularly.
- Conclusion
- Matthew 28:18-20 - To the layman this could mean three baptisms, but...
Ephesians 4:4-6 - there is only 1 baptism because the Godhead is 3 persons in 1 personification.
