- Introduction
- Hebrews 11:1 - Faith is evidence of things not seen, but the Bible is proof of things that are.
- The Bible is absolute truth
- The Bible is the only Holy Book on earth that offers prophecies that have been fulfilled.
- The Bible beats us to our scientific discoveries
- Jeremiah 33:22 - Hosts of heavens (stars) or unnumbered. During the time of the writing (600-700BC), mankind
thought there were about 6000 stars and had mapped them all. Now we know that there are more than we can count.
- The earth was not considered round until the 15th century and wasn't even suggested until 300BC.
- Isaiah 40:22 - "circle" of the earth or khoog which means spherical
- Job 26:10 - "compassed" is also khoog and it divides the light and darkness. Only on a sphere can the line between
light and darkness be circular or spherical.
- Job 26:7 - the earth hang on nothing. most all ancient cultures believed that the earth rested on something like animals'
backs or the shoulders of the god, Atlas, etc.
- In the 19th century we discovered oceanic currents throughout the world's oceans but...
- Psalms 8.8 - mentions paths of the seas yet none of the seas that the writers used would have much of a current.
- Isaiah 43.16 - paths through the waters
- The Water Cycle was discovered in the 18th Century yet...
- Job 26:8 - Water is bound in the clouds
- Amos 9:6 - The waters of the sea are poured out upon the earth
- Ecclesiastes 1:6-7 - Not only describes the water cycle but also the circuitry of our Jet Streams (discovered in the 19th century)
- Jesus is the Christ
- Messianic prophecies in Old Testament.
- Out of Bethlehem (Micah 5:2) - Chances based on population over past 2000 yrs is about 1 in 100,000
- Presented on a donkey as King in Jerusalem (Zechariah 9:9) - How many have done this? Surely less than 1 in every 100 people could have done this?
- Betrayed for 30 pieces of silver (Zechariah 11:12) - Say less than 1 in every 1000 have been
- 30 pieces paid wound up in a potter's hand and paid for in the temple (Zechariah 11:13) - Surely the chance cannot be greater than 1 in every 100,000
- Wounded in the hands (Zechariah 13:6) - Probably 1 in every 1000 people will be wounded in both hands
- Innocently convicted to death (Isaiah 53:7) - A conservative guess would be 1 in every 1000 capital punishments are falsely accused.
- Died with the wicked but buried with the rich (Isaiah 53:9) - Surely less than 1 in every 1000 people have been
- Pierced hands and feet (Psalms 22:16) - All who were crucified had this, but that's still less than 1 in every 10,000 people
- Composite Probability is multiplicative so for all 8 of these prophecies to happen to 1 person would be about 1 in 10 to the 28th power.
So what's that mean. Well your chances would be about the same if you marked a silver dollar and mixed it into a pile of silver dollars
that covered the state of Texas 2 inches deep; then randomly reached in and found it.
- Conclusion - If we conclude that the bible is truth, then we must be resolved to obey it or perish. If the bible is
ultimate truth, then the odds show beyond chance that Jesus was the true Messiah and thereby being the only
name by which any can be saved. (Acts 4:10-12)
