- Introduction
- Philippians 2:3-8 -
Christ put everyone who ever lived and will live first in his life. He made every act selflessly with
the salvation and wellbeing of others in mind. We claim to be like him as Christians but yet we still
tend to look out for "number one" first.
- Other People's Problems
- Luke 10:30-37 - Good Samaritan
- James 5:16 - Openly look after each other in prayer
- Romans 12:15 - Confort the sad
- Other People's Interests
- 1 Corinthians 9:19 - Being everyone's servant
- 1 Corinthians 10:24,33 - Be more concerned with other's wealth
- Acts 2:44-45 - Everything was shared with these christians
- Other People's Feelings
- Too often we hear phrases from brethern like: "get over it", "I don't care what they think", or "well I don't see
anything wrong with it and I'm going to do it anyway". How can we have these attitudes and still be putting
others first in our lives?
- Matthew 5:23-24 - suggests that if we have a quarrel with our
brother, then we aren't fit to worship God properly until it is resolved.
- Hebrews 12:14 - follow (dioko: means chase or run after) peace will all
- Galatians 6:1-4 - Your burden is my burden
- Colossians 3:13-16 - the peace of God in your hearts
- 1 Peter 3:9-11 - Solution: strive for Peace; work it out
- Note: Scriptures that do not apply here are scriptures that use the terms offense or offend in them. At the
time of the KJV translations these terms did not mean the same thing that they do today. These terms were only referred to
breaking the law (spiritual law in the context of scripture). So "causing a brother to offend" does not mean that you hurt
their feelings; it means causing them to sin. However, this does not by any means allow us to hurt others feelings or trample
on their convictions by openly offending them. Too many times we'll hear brothers use this argument to say that it doesn't matter
if you offend others, just don't cause them to sin. This is wrong for the simple basics of Christianity teaches us not to trample
the standards that our fellow Chrisitans hold.
- Conclusion
- Ephesians 5:18-21 - Submit ourselves one to another
